Our school garden project
When our Biology teacher suggested creating a garden behind the school, many students were doubtful. The area was small, the ground was dry, and several old boxes and broken chairs had been left there. Some students thought it would be easier to turn the space into a bicycle parking area.
Our teacher explained that the garden could become an outdoor classroom. We could study plants, observe insects and grow vegetables for the school cafeteria. She also said that gardening would teach us how much time and care were needed to produce food.
Twenty students joined the project. During the first weekend, we removed the rubbish and tested the soil. The results showed that it did not contain enough nutrients. A local gardener advised us to add compost made from leaves and vegetable waste.
We divided the garden into several sections. One group planted tomatoes and beans, another grew herbs, and my group created a small area for wildflowers. We chose flowers that attracted bees and butterflies because these insects help many plants reproduce.
Our first problem appeared when several young plants disappeared overnight. At first, we thought someone had damaged them. Then we noticed small tracks in the soil and discovered that rabbits were entering through a hole in the fence. We repaired the fence and covered the youngest plants with light netting.
During the summer, students visited the garden in small groups. We watered the plants, removed weeds and recorded their growth. The tomatoes grew well, but some beans were damaged by extremely hot weather. This taught us that even careful planning could not control every natural condition.
In September, we collected vegetables and herbs. The cafeteria used some of them in salads, while the remaining produce was sold at a small school market. The money was spent on new tools and seeds for the following year.
The garden has now become a popular part of the school. Teachers use it during Biology and Geography lessons, and younger students visit it to learn about insects and plants. Next year, we plan to collect rainwater and build a small shelter for garden tools.

Welcome to the Lakeside Environmental Centre. It is situated in Forest Road, close to the town lake. The centre will reopen next Friday after a short period of repair work.
There are wildlife, gardening and recycling classes for teenagers. Wildlife classes take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Students learn about local birds, insects and animals and sometimes observe them outdoors.
Gardening lessons are held on Mondays and Thursdays. Students grow flowers, herbs and vegetables. Every month, they can enter a gardening competition. The best plants are displayed near the entrance.
Recycling workshops take place on Saturday mornings. Students learn how paper, glass and plastic can be reused to create useful objects.
The centre also has a research room with computers, microscopes and reference books. On weekdays, it is open from nine in the morning until eight in the evening. At weekends, it closes at six.

- орфография и пунктуация — до 2 баллов.
Если объём письма составляет менее 81 слова, ответ оценивается в 0 баллов по всем критериям. Если объём превышает 121 слово, проверяются только первые 110 слов.
Максимальный первичный балл за всю работу — 25.
