РАЗДЕЛ 4. ПИСЬМО — SAMPLE SOLUTIONS

Задание 37. Email (100–140 words)

Sample solution:

Subject: Books

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your email. I enjoy reading as well and usually choose fiction because it helps me relax. However, I sometimes read non-fiction when I want to learn something new. A Russian literary character I find similar to myself is Pierre Bezukhov, as he often questions his purpose in life. I believe book characters can influence real behaviour because they make readers think about their own actions.

By the way, how was the concert you went to?
Who did you go with?
Would you like to attend another concert soon?

Write back soon.

Best wishes,
Ivan

Задание 38.1. Project (Accommodation) — 200–250 words

Sample solution:

I am doing a project on student accommodation and would like to comment on the results of a survey conducted among Zetland university students.

According to the survey, the most popular option is living in a university residence hall, chosen by 29% of students. Sharing a flat with friends comes second with 27%, while 22% prefer staying at home with their parents. Renting a room and renting a flat alone are less popular options, chosen by 12% and 10% respectively.

It is noticeable that shared accommodation is more popular than living alone, most likely because it is cheaper. However, sharing a flat may cause problems such as lack of privacy or disagreements. These issues can be solved by setting clear rules.

In my opinion, living in a university residence hall is the best option for students because it is affordable and close to campus.

Задание 38.2. Project (Public speaking) — 200–250 words

Sample solution:

I am working on a project about improving public speaking skills and would like to comment on the results of a survey conducted among young Zetlanders.

The survey shows that attending a special course is the most popular option, chosen by 33%. Watching videos of good speakers and practising in front of a mirror are also common methods. Reading books is the least popular option.

Many people find public speaking stressful. Regular practice and supportive feedback can help solve this problem.

In my opinion, public speaking skills are very important for a future career because they help people communicate clearly and confidently.
