✅ Solutions
Task 1. Listening transcript (long version)
Girl: Hi Max, I’m thinking of starting a new hobby.
Boy: Really? What kind of hobby?
Girl: I’ve always wanted to try photography. Taking pictures of nature and people sounds exciting.
Boy: Photography? Interesting choice. But why not dancing or swimming?
Girl: I like dancing, but I’m not very good at it. And swimming I already do at school. Photography is something new.
Boy: Fair enough. Personally, I think sports are better hobbies.
Girl: Why do you say that?
Boy: Well, they keep me healthy. Running and football give me energy, and I meet lots of new people.
Girl: That’s true, but I want a hobby that lets me be creative.
Boy: The problem is, cameras and lenses are expensive.
Girl: Yes, that’s what worries me too. I’ll probably start with my phone.
Boy: That’s a good idea. The main thing about hobbies is to enjoy them.
Girl: Exactly. If you don’t like your hobby, you’ll give it up quickly.
Boy: So, what if we try something together?
Girl: Like what?
Boy: How about we go to the swimming pool this weekend? You like swimming, right?
Girl: Yes, I do. Okay, let’s do that. But I’ll still save money for a good camera.
Boy: Deal. I’ll bring my goggles!

Task 7. Writing — sample answer
Hello Tom,
Thanks for your letter. At weekends I usually relax after a busy school week. On Saturday mornings I sometimes go shopping with my parents. In the afternoon I meet my friends and we play football in the yard. On Sundays I prefer to stay at home. I read books, watch films, and help my family with housework. I also spend some time preparing for school. I think weekends are important to spend with family, because we don’t have much time together on weekdays.
How often do you go cycling? Do you ride in the city or in the countryside? Do you take part in competitions?
Write soon!
Best wishes,
Your friend
